Over the past three years that I have been contracting, I have been exposed to a number of systems in Banking, the Health industry, Telecommunications (which was a refresher since my past has strong telecommunications in several areas), NZ Post. The roles have included both government and private industry.
The following detail relates to a permanent role at the ministry of Justice. A quick browse through should give a feel for the extent of service, maintenance and support of the large number of systems in my area of responsibility.
My responsibility was to ensure that all of these systems operate 0700 - 1800 on all working days, which we achieved with only very rare, brief and minor exceptions.
My permanent team (as opposed to seconded and contracted personnel) supported a large number of systems, in a variety of languages, with a wide range of user numbers. Even though stretched, the team not only achieved its day to day responsibilities, but also successfully delivered other projects.
Almost all of the systems provide management of some aspect of court processing and many provide statistical output to either the organisations' management or to government.
All of the systems coloured in navy blue, were developed by my teams when I was in the Ministry of Justice. Since that time, I have been involved in a number of technologies, some of which were new to me where others were very familiar territory.
