Executive Summary

I am a dedicated, experienced, skilled, reliable and professional manager and team member, who achieves consistently excellent results by working with people to set challenging, achievable, goals.  I am personable and have found from considerable experience, that working with people, challenging them, facilitating them and encouraging them, achieves results far exceeding those gained by any other methods.

Whatever the charge, my projects are delivered to time, budget and quality, whilst maintaining good relationships between team members, the management and all other parties.

The following summary was put together by an agency after they had confirmed my credentials.

"David’s experience in IT / IS extends over 30 years.  He started as programmer and since then his career has covered advisory roles, sales support, marketing, line management, software development, applications management, operational management, delivery management and business consulting.  Throughout this time he has worked a range of business sectors including supply chain management, finance and banking, and central government.

David has a proven record of success. He is a result driven, pragmatic operator, with an ability to establish strong and effective team and client relationships.  Planning is thorough, execution composed, organised and adaptive (without loss of rigour). David can produce quality results within tight deadlines and is an effective problem solver.  He is comfortable at conceptual and detail level, and can articulate that understanding to both a technical and non-technical audience.

David has worked with numerous analytical, development, service management, and project management tools and methodologies.

David has considerable experience working in environments where there is constant change and where there is pressure to meet deadlines.

STRENGTHS

In addition, I have worked in numerous areas of private industry and have considerable experience in vendor and out-source management, tendering, finance, budgeting, people management and 'trouble-shooting' of processes, departments that had not been managed well and other consulting roles.  These span IT and Telecommunications and include diverse PM roles centred around software development (internally and via external vendors) database, billing, transition and others.

I genuinely believe projects and systems support are a team effort.  My role as a People Manager is to facilitate my teams to do a good job which means I hire the right people, provide them with the right tools, training and environment...  so that they can succeed.  I win, they win and the organisation wins.  We are consistently successful by consulting with our customers and agreeing to the requirements, deliverables, targets and milestones, then continuing to involve them through to the delivery, post implementation and ongoing support.

My skills in managing people to achieve outstanding results, were ably demonstrated in my most recent role where I managed a team of developers, project managers and support personnel providing computer systems using leading edge technologies.  I left the New Zealand Ministry of Justice in February 2005 to move to the contracting arena, where I hope to make better and more rewarding use of my skills and experience.  The ministry has over 2,500 staff and 3,500 desktop PC's and uses a significant number of IT systems over an extensive network.  My permanent team supported a large number of these (60+) Systems in a variety of computer languages and architectures.  My development and projects teams provided new systems as well as enhancements to the existing applications.  During 2004 we had over ten active projects running concurrently.

Position Sought

A rewarding role in Management or Project Management, in either IT&T or in the broader business/commercial arena.  Ideally, the role would be in the contracting arena and would challenge my skills and experience in working with people to deliver excellent solutions.

In short, I believe my skills are in my ability to work with teams to:

Although my strong leaning is towards the contract arena, I would seriously consider permanent positions where they offer rewarding and ongoing challenges.
